Firebolt by Adrienne Woods
(The Dragonian Series #1)

Genres: Young Adult, Fantasy, Romance
Published: 20th November 2013
Publisher: Mythos Press

[Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo]
Dragons. Right. Teenage girls don't believe in
fairy tales, and sixteen-year-old Elena Watkins
was no different.

Until the night a fairy tale killed her father.

Now Elena is in a new world, and a new school. The cutest guy around may be an evil dragon, a prince wants Elena's heart, and a long dead sorcerer may be waking up to kill her. Oh and the only way Elena's going to graduate is on the back of a dragon of her own.

Teenage girls don't believe in fairy tales. Now it's time for Elena to believe in...herself.
Harry Potter but with more dragons, anyone? What an enjoyable little story Firebolt was. It took me back to my younger years whenever I first got swept away by the magical world of Harry Potter. Younger kids will love the take-me-away quality of this excellent start to a promising series while adults will love the nostalgic feel.

Adrienne Woods was meant for writing this type of book. I felt like she was able to keep my interest from beginning to end with relative ease. Her grasp on delivering the story in a seemingly seamless way really worked for me. The story felt real to me. Whenever I read fantasy, it's important for me to get the feeling that I'm actually in the world that the story is happening in. With Firebolt, I definitely got that feeling!

My biggest drawback would have to be Elena. She wasn't a bad character. She just had her moments that grated on my nerves. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy her character; I did. And I thoroughly enjoyed the other characters in the story, as well. The author is skilled at managing a large cast of characters, and I enjoyed getting to know all of them. Their dynamics were very fun.

I enjoyed Firebolt quite a lot. Fans of Harry Potter who are chasing that next nostalgic high should definitely give a closer look to this book. Though in general, I think I would recommend this to a younger crowd of readers who are looking to delve into the fantasy genre.

**I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to Adrienne Woods.

Meet Tabitha
Name: Tabitha
Age: 18
Status: Snow Dragon, Chromatic, meaning they have a dark and evil side.
Favorite Food: Frozen Berries
Favorite Drink: Slush Puppies with Fire powder
Favorite Saying: Oh my soul.
Ability: Snow dragons are very smart but also very cowardly. When the going gets tough they usually are the first ones to disappear. Tabitha is no different. She breathes a chilling frost that would either made you end up with hypothermia or frozen. It could be worse though.
Biggest Dream: To marry Blake, the Rubicon. It’s all she want and she basically lives for that boy. She would do whatever he asks, even if it’s to go on a crazy mission that would cost you your life.
Biggest Fear: That Blake would turn evil one day and forget about her or meet someone else.
Strong Points: She just buff her eyes to get what she wants. Beauty has its perks.
Weak Points: Blake, Blake and Blake. A bit shallow, oh and she hates to be called a coward.
Personality: Tabitha is one of those girls you hate. She has everything, a gorgeous face which can carry any type of hair, long, short it doesn’t matter. Everything to her is about how others sees her. Some say she’s shallow, she likes to think that she just know what she wants and she wants the full package. She has plenty of girl friends but hung out most of the times with her beau, Blake Leaf, which every girl day dream about. She loves being his girl and would do anything for him, no matter what. She even does his homework for him on a daily basis.

Adrienne Woods was born and raised in South Africa where she still lives with her husband and two beautiful little girls. When she’s not dabbing into all sorts of genres, written under various different pen names, she’s busy being a mother, and a loving wife. Family always comes first and her hobby has to wait till she gets a chance to write.

  1. I'm not the biggest fantasy fan. I'll admit, I never read (or watched) Harry Potter. I know I know... But this book caught my interest and I'm adding it to my TBR pile. :)
